American Thanksgiving Day

It was a packed house at Ford Field yesterday.

We had an awesome day at Ford Field yesterday! It was the American Thanksgiving Holiday and the Patriots came to Ford Field to play the Lions. And let me tell ya it sure didn't hurt that Kid Rock was the halftime show!

Yep, that's the "Kid"

How great is that shot!

Sure the Lions lost 45-24, but they played great, it just seems that they always tend to fizzle out during the second half of the game. They come out like roaring lions and then turn into pussycats. Oh, the trials and tribulations of being a fan. I still think it was a great game. Heck even Shaun Hill started to make his own tackles. Of course though all the NFL and news does is talk about Tom Brady. They are forgetting that it takes two teams to make a football game and the Lions definitely made it a game! They don't mention that Ndamukong Suh sacked Tom Brady giving him 8, which breaks the team rookie record set by Tracy Scoggins in 1992. Maurice Morris had an awesome game carrying the ball 9 times, getting 55 yards and 2 touchdowns. Calvin Johnson and yes even Shaun Hill got touchdowns. Anybody can be a Patriots fan, but it takes a lot more heart and compassion to be a devoted Lions fan. My confidence will not sway in these guys 'cause the potential is there!

That's right the Lions did have the lead a couple of times!

And had tied it up a couple of times. Notice the quarter. They're contenders, I tell ya!!

Another great shot.

Now I just feel like having turkey. I think I will start celebrating the Canadian and the American Thanksgiving Days!

Web Sites and Blogs

I want to mention a couple of my FAVOURITE sites. I have been following the blog The Pioneer Woman by Ree Drummond in Oregon. I absolutely love it! Maybe it's because she sounds a little like me or maybe it is because she has a bassett hound named "Charlie". (Whom I sure Freddie Spaghetti would love to meet!) Seriously, he really does need a friend! She really makes me laugh and has beautiful pictures on her site not to mention a ton of information, links and recipes. She was recently on a Throwdown episode with Bobby Flay which we apparently can't get in Canada!(That sucks!) If you get a chance check out her blog. It's like reading a good book you can't put down.
My other favourite site is The NFL Shop especially with Christmas around the corner. Being Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks fans in Ontario, Canada, it isn't easy to get team gear and collectibles for our family. With the exception of a few items that they don't ship to Canada, the NFL shop is great! They have high quality products with a quick delivery time and not bad pricing. I have gotten quite a few things including custom t-shirts that we absolutely love, accessories for our NFL rec room, plates and napkins, a cooler and even Fred has some gear! It really is a one stop shopping experience for all NFL products.

Peanut Allergies

I never realized just how hard it would be to find peanut-free items for kids. Since Emma was diagnosed with a life threatening peanut allergy at the age of one, our quest now is to find peanut-free kid friendly products. It's not easy! I have to give credit to Loblaws for acknowledging this growing problem and starting to show the peanut-free logo on a lot of there PC products. Check them out at pc.ca You don't know how much this helps family members. You can spend hours reading labels and even then you are sometimes not sure. I am now in the midst of scouring everywhere for unique peanut-free stocking stuffers. With such a growing number of children and adults with peanut allergies more company's need to adopt the peanut-free logo. It would make life so much easier for parents and other family members of peanut allergy sufferers, not to mention safer, too!

Come on! Look at that face! She should be the poster child for the "peanut free label". So get with the program, all you company giants!!

Here are just a few sites that I found surfing the web. alleriffic.com
bestallergysites.com
peanutfreeplanet.com

In Canada a great food allergy informational site is anaphylaxis.org

'Tis The Season

Yes, it's that time of year again. Let me tell you, our family LOVES Christmas. Steve is a big kid and was busy putting the finishing touches on our lights this past weekend. We spent all of Saturday morning going from store to store looking for that perfect addition. Steve finally went to Costco in the afternoon and came home with a 4 foot snowman. It's gorgeous!

Yep, there it is in the picture! I'll show a better one later.

We got one last year but it was too small for Stevies liking. He is a perfectionist when it comes to decorating our house outside. Thank god we made the big switch over to LCD lights this year as last year our breakers kept popping. It cost a small fortune, but it will pay off in the end. Our house looks awesome and now I can't wait for snow! This coming weekend will be interesting as we get our indoor decorations out and put up our tree. Why will it be so interesting? Let us not forget Fabulous Fred! Last night alone he chewed all the tassles off of one of my cushions for the couch. So picture a tree, ornaments and presents all just sitting there taunting him, goading him on, testing his puppiness. What's a few Christmas presents with tatters, holes and drool. After all, it's the thought that counts isn't it? And.........eeeeeverybody loves FRED!!!

Especially me!

(Don't fuel the drool, don't fuel the drool!)
Fred hates it when I talk about him!

On a lighter note it was the Woodstock Santa Claus Parade Saturday night. We did not attend (remember Steve went to Costco in search of the perfect tree). But Phill and Brandi took the kids and they were so excited. Cameron was awe struck when one of the firefighters came over to shake his hand. Being three and having just seen the firefighters and their firetruck when they visited his daycare, Brandi said it was like he saw God or something!

On a sadder note, yes, I watched the Detroit verses Dallas game. And no, I'm not talking about it other than "hair pull not horse collar!" That's all I have to say on the matter!

My Baby Girl

Our baby girl is 27 today. She's a grown woman now with a family of her own, but she will always be our baby.
She's always been a Daddy's girl. I won't bore you with the details of my labor or carrying her for nine months, after all this is HER day. Yes, even though I am the one who always makes her cake! (sniff!sniff!) She wasn't your typical child who liked chocolate cake.....noooo.....she always had to have carrot cake and I obliged; but enough about me. Just like her favourite food has always been my homemade baked beans. Notice I said mine not her Dad's.(again I won't bore you with my little issues)
Odd, I know. But these are just some of the things that make her special, it helps that she has given us two beautiful grandbabies, also.
Seriously though, she has grown into a beautiful woman inside and out who is a great daughter, mother and wife. (Oh, my gosh! She must take after me!!ha!ha!)So.... happy birthday to our baby girl and sorry about your cake, your Dad ate a piece at lunch!! So did Fred!
Yes, that is Fred eating your cake. Sorry!

Christmas Angel

Oh, my goodness!! Is that a Christmas Angel?.........Naw, it's just Fred.

Great Weekend!

Saturday morning we took our grandson Cameron to Costco with us in the morning, we even found some "peanut free" baked goods for the kids! Stevie spent the afternoon putting up our Christmas lights (woohoo!!) and Fred and I did housework. Okay, I did housework while Fred layed about like a lazy slug when he wasn't attacking me!
Then we went over to the kids to babysit while they went out for dinner. This was their first date out since they had Emma just over a year ago! I am so glad they got out. They needed it! The kids were great and even little Emma went to bed for us.
She has a soft spot for her Poppa and loves to rock in the chair with him, that's right HIM not me. What's up with that, little missy! Okay, okay, they do look awfully cute together! I still have plenty of time to bring you over to Grandma's side and be a little Lioness!(ha!ha!) I know Brandi and Phill were pretty happy to come home to both kids in bed! Just another job well done by "Super Mom", oh, sure and dad! Then it was home to the physco, uh...I mean Fred!

Yes, that is my foot he is gnawing on!!

Great Weekend! Part Two

Got up and made cabbage rolls and creamy hash brown potatoes for supper. You know a Sunday is going to be great when you have food like that! Steve went to work for four hours while Fred and I cooked. Ya, ya I cooked and Fred waited patiently for things to come out of the oven.

And waited............
.
And waited.............

It was a great Sunday despite Detroit Lions loss to the BILLS(of all teams!) by 2 points; and the fact that even with the NFL Sunday Ticket on our Shaw Dish, we still could not get the game! Our daughter two blocks away got it on Rogers HD. So, explain that one! After being on hold for one hour to Shaw, I finally hung up and tried the call back method, which I got in about 5 minutes, only to have the guy tell me he googled it (that sounded professional!) and it's not shown in a 75 mile radius. Plus had me phone my daughter with our cell phone to ask what channel they were getting the game on and preceded to say that Rogers must be showing it illegally. (Nice touch Shaw!) I'm not sure if they measure distance by how the crow flies or what, but we are in Woodstock, Ontario which would be just over the 75 miles. I wonder what the President of Shaw Communications Inc., Mr. Peter J. Bissonnette would think of that! I was one unhappy customer! At least we got the Seattle Seahawks game against Arizona 36-18 and Matt Hasselback was looking pretty pumped being back after his concussion and threw for 333 yards! Too bad he cracked a bone in his left wrist, but at least it isn't his throwing arm. Mike Williams had the biggest game of his NFL career with 11 passes for 145 yards which were both career highs. All that with a pinkie finger he broke in practice on Thursday. Too bad he couldn't have done that in Detroit a couple of years ago! Oh, well ya can't have it all! Kudos to Stevies team. Pretty good turn around after last week. (Okay, we won't go there!) And that folks.........was our Sunday!

Random Pics From the Game

Me and my man.

I didn't go to Sundays game as Brandi was supposed to go with her Dad for her birthday and I was going to get a bunch of things done around the house and stay with my dear Freddie. Since Brandi was still getting over the flu she couldn't go so Steve took our brother-in-law Mark with him. And I still got my stuff (mainly laundry) done and enjoyed some time with Brandi when she came for tea. So, I have no pics from that game with the Jets, but I did take lots at the Redskins game with my new Nikon Coolpix L110 camera that Stevie got me for our 27th anniversary on Oct. 28/10.

These are just a few on the way to the game. I just love watching the huge windmills as we get closer to Windsor on the 401.

I just love Kyle Vanden Bosch, too! He gets the players so pumped up before a game! Ya, that's him behind the camera.

Warming up!

Last but not least a couple pictures of Nate. I could probably put about ten, but I realize not everyone is a big Nate Burleson fan like me. Steve likes him just because he is an ex-seahawker. I, Nate, am your true fan!

Ya,ya....I know it's been awhile. But it just seems life has gotten so busy! Now that winter is upon us it is time to slow down.....and do some bloggin'! Kids have been sick, grandkids have been sick including our poor Emma being diagnosed with a peanut allergy after a scary episode that landed her in Emergency! Thank goodness everyone is back on track now. Stevie and I have had our flu shots, Fred will be getting neutered (oh, god, please let it slow him down!!) and the doctor says that I am just about through menopause. yippee!! Yes, the Lions lost in overtime Sunday to the Jets. Hey, but if it wasn't for bad calls against the Lions, these refs would have nothing to do!! Need I say more? And to my beloved Stevie, "Wow, your team really sucks!!" Just when ya thought the Seahawks couldn't get any worse, they got beat 41-7 by the Giants! In their defense this was Charlie Whitehursts first start with them, they had a ton of injuries and roster changes right up until gameday. Oh, well......Gooooooooooooooo Lions!!!

Then there is life with "Fred". I could be polite and say "Oh, Fred is sooo rambunctious, he! he!" But in truth he can be a royal pain in the ass!! Oh, we love him to pieces, no doubt about that. But I'm not going to sugar coat the fact that I can't wait until he slows down and quits chewing.....and biting....and tearing around the house....and taking my tea towels off of the counter. He is a very vocal dog, too. Hmmm.....I wonder why my dog would be vocal? Anyway we love him and we are getting him neutered. Oh, did I already mention that?

Oh, just a man walking his dog. Hey , wait a minute buddy; that's my dog not yours and is that a Seahawks hat your wearing? Loser! (just kiddin' hon!)

Oct. 31/10. Only One Way to Skin a 'Skin.........

....and that's with a Lion and a little man they call "Suh", Ndamukong Suh to be exact. With 3 sacks and a 17 yard fumble return, everyone was chanting "My name is Suh, How do you do!!" Stafford was finally back after separating his shoulder in week 1. He threw for 212 yards and 4 touchdowns (okay and 1 interception). Calvin Johnson scored 3 touchdowns for a career high. He had nine catches for 101 yards.
Sure the Redskins say they shouldn't have pulled McNabb, that is what cost them the game; but I beg to differ. McNabb SUCKED!! Oh well, whatever gets ya through the loss I guess. I still can't believe people were leaving the stadium with 5:33 left in the game! I guess the joke was on them 'cause they missed the great finale! With 3:12 left, Stafford threw a 10 yarder to Calvin Johnson and then Suh helped them score 9 more points by returning St. Louis' backup quarterbacks fumbled pass for a touchdown in a 14 second span to win 37-25. BOOYAH!!! Everyone in the stands just went wild! It was great. Gooooooo Lions!!

Oct. 10/10. Finally I See a Lions Win at Ford Field!!

This was their first win since Stafford threw 5 touchdown passes against Cleveland on Nov.22/09. It was their largest margin win in 15 years!! Also the first time the Lions have won by more than a touchdown since beating Denver 44-7 in November 2007. Running back Stefan Logan ran a kick off return back for 105 yard touchdown, breaking a tie in the second quarter. After that they "rammed" it up St. Louis' butt! Shawn Hill played an awesome game throwing for 227 yards and connecting with Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew and yes
....my guy Nate Burleson #13,( ya,that's him! sorry Stevie) for touchdowns. All I can say is that it was so exciting to see them win! You just feel so much pride for you and for them. This game definitely put some "ROAR" back in this Lions fan!!
