Hot, Hot, Hot and Hot

Yes, I have four kinds of hot to talk about. Hopefully this post doesn't seem to long, but we start our two weeks holidays tomorrow and I probably won't be posting much, if at all until after holidays. I will try to get around to visit blogs when I get a chance or am up at night (like now) unable to sleep. Oh, don't worry I'm not going to go into the whole menopause thingy again. ( I think I just did! hee, hee) I also want to stay on top of the events of the Blogville Olympics when they start on July 27th.

Hot #1 - An Award

Our friend Daisy over at Everyday Adventures in  Havachon Heaven has given us the Blog on Fire Award.  We are truly honored to receive this award from Daisy.  Daisy is a Havachon and just the cutest little furball who is always up to some kind of mischief.  I had never heard of a Havachon until I met Daisy in Blogville.   So if you haven't met her yet, pop on over to Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven and see what she's up to!  I am breaking the rules on this one, so if you do want to see them just check them out when your visiting Daisy.

Thanks again Daisy!

Hot #2 - Asphalt

The next thing I wanted to say is that the noise has stopped!  They have finally paved our road.

Look at this bad boy.  They even carry their coolers around on it.

Loading it up with hot asphalt.

Boy that's got to be hot work considering it was 100 degrees out the day they were doing it.

Ta Da!

The finished product.  Our street!

Hot#3 - Tickets
They're here..............

Yep, our Detroit Lions Season's Tickets arrived! I love the way they have a picture of one of the players on every ticket this year. You probably can't tell, but game 6 they play hubby's beloved Seahawks.  Boy we can't wait for that game.  It only happens about every 7 years.  Actually the Seattle Seahawks are playing the Buffalo Bills in Toronto in December this year too.

Hot #4 - Weather

Finally, with all this heat we've been having and no rain our lawn is just about toast. Toasty, really. It crunches under your feet.  The hounds have one particular dead spot they like to lay in and roll around.

I guess dry grass makes for a good back scratcher. But yesterday not only did the air conditioner actually shut off but we got some rain. Yay! Not as much as we'd like but at least it was something.  Just think, all this just before we start holidays!

So keep enjoying your summer, try to stay cool and I'll see ya back here in a couple of weeks!

Monday Mischief - The Other Wild Child

There was nothing out of the ordinary this weekend.  It was the usual stuff with Fred.

He steals some laundry..........

Then he lays on it waiting to see if you'll try to take it.  I just ignore him, walk away and eventually, he falls asleep on it.  Then I get it and it goes back in the laundry. But yesterday all hell broke loose!  Freddie was just laying under the coffee table on his our laundry, minding his own mischief when Gloria suddenly got all giddy, ran over and snatched it from him.

What the eff???

She just went wild. I think she's making up for not getting out when she was younger. LOL!  Heck the other day she actually grabbed a ball outside and ran with it.  Mind you she finally stopped and just dropped it like she didn't know what to do with it, but it was totally out of character! Crazy, I tell ya!

"Really? Pfffft"

Someday......

A few of you have asked "Why the gentle leader on Fred?"  Well........let me explain.

(Gloria's face there looks like King Julienne from Madagascar!)

With Fred just turning two and having the manners of something out of a thriller movie, our grandkids are afraid of him.  Lets face it puppies just want to play.  They jump, bite and scratch and trying to tell a two and four year old they're just playing....yeah...let's just say that didn't work.  I want them all to eventually see that Freddie can be a great friend and dogs are not scary.  So in the beginning, we gated him off from the kids that were scared.  Then we moved to having him on a leader and leash to get them used to having him around and him not get so excited. The gentle leader actually calms Freddie down.  Now we do it in steps. First the leader and leash while we hold him. Then we let him roam about with the leash and leader on. Next we take the leash off and if he's really good we remove the gentle leader.  But I do have to say this has only happened a few times so far. It may not be the best system but it's working for us.

This is what we want.

This is what we get!
When your little and this face is running at you, let's face it you cry!

Having Gloria has been a big help with the grandkids because she is so calm. Freddie is slowly getting there. He's getting older and so are the grandkids.

Last Friday he actually laid under the lilac bush and didn't bother the grandkids while they played in the water.  He had the leader on and it was super hot out which helped, but he still did good.  Someday, hopefully, he will be completely gentle leader free!

For now.............baby steps!!

Awards Thursday!

We got a new award! Our friend Dachshund Nola was nice enough to give us the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.  I'm sure you all know Nola, but if you don't you have to pop over and see what she's up to.  Nola shares her home with her peeps, 2 other doxies (soon to be three), 2 cats, 1 cockatiel, 14 chickens, 2 ducks and a new addition of a pig!  So you can imagine there is never a dull moment over there!

Share the love and link to the person who awarded you.
Tell us 7 facts about yourself.
Nominate 7 other fabulous bloggers
Link to the nominees in your post and leave them a comment on their blog letting them know they won.

I will list 7 facts about Fred

1. Fred is my baby and he's spoiled rotten!
2. There is only one specific vet that can trim Fred's nails. We call him the dog whisperer.
3. When Gloria gets behind on our walks, Fred actually stops and waits for her to catch up.
4. Apparently, Fred's crate is just for holding Old Blue, his first stuffie.
5. Fred loves carrots and apple slices (no seeds though)
6. He is a real cuddle bug when he's sleepy.
7. Fred really is over dramatic, hence his nickname Mr. Dramatica!

Awesome Moon Pictures!

I just had to post these pictures I took of the moon Sunday night. I was up in the night doing comments because I couldn't sleep (surprise, surprise) and when I took Fred out to pee at about 2 am the moon was so clear and bright, I went in got my camera and snapped a few shots.

I used my digital zoom and I just can't believe how close they look. You can actually see the craters! These first two are the originals.

These next two are the same pictures that I cropped.

I still just can't believe I got such great pictures with my 15x zoom Nikkon camera with no extra lens.

Awesome!!

Monday Mischief - Too Up Close and Personal

I didn't get a whole lot of sleep this weekend. It wasn't that it was so hot, 'cause it was and even with the air conditioner on our bedroom still gets hot with to hounds on our bed.  It really wasn't the nightly hot flashes, I'm learning to cope with that, sort of.  It was the fact that..............

Freddie Spaghetti may like to sleep with his head up someone's butt.

But I DON'T!! Ick!!

Silence

What's up with that?
I woke up this morning to silence.
Since they have been redoing our crescent, for the past month or so, every morning around 7am I wake to the sound of heavy machinery starting up. I actually started getting up earlier so I could have my coffee in peace and quiet.  But  this morning I didn't wake up until 8:30 am.  Obviously I thought it was earlier as I didn't hear any machinery.  I looked at the clock and gasped!  Even the hounds were still in bed. Usually Gobble Guts Gloria won't let me stay in bed 'cause she wants those morning treats!
I went to the living room and looked out the window and saw this. (see our lovely new sidewalks)

Yippee!!  Silence!

I rushed around to get the dogs out to go potty, feed and water them and put coffee on before the noise started. But it's 10:30 am and there's still no one around. Ahhhhh!!

Yesterday I woke up at 7am to this.

I'll call it the tamper.  All day the tamper went around tamping down the dirt on the road.

Everything in our house shook and rattled all day.  Between the heat and the noise it just gave you a headache!
So the silence today is very welcome.  It's actually kind of eerie.

And Fred.......well, he's in on the couch.........

........with a bully stick hangover from last night. I gave him one to settle him down.  He's been getting so antsy  since they haven't been able to get out for walks because of the heat.  Yesterday afternoon I actually soaked them down with the hose to cool them off and of course that turned Freddie into a complete wild man!! So, I left Fred there on the couch, got my laptop and came outside.  I don't even mind the heat right now.  My  Gardenias bloomed and the smell out here is great!

I've never had Gardenia's before.  I just love them!
And yesterday I even finished another dishcloth for my daughter.

Today I will attempt the pot holder from Dip-Dip and The Bridge and the Blogsville Ladies Crochet Society!

Have a great weekend everybody and try to stay cool!

Monday Mischief - Or Not?

Nope, not much mischief went on here this Canada Day weekend.  We went swimming, had the family for barbecued  steak and crab but it was too hot for the hounds to get into any mischief.  Okay, maybe Fred still had to have his gentle leader on while the grandkids were here and Eva LongGloria did go a little wild herself; but that was it.

The grandkids enjoyed the bean bag game for a while.

Cameron got pretty good at tossing them in.

And Emma would just run up and throw the bag in the hole. hee!hee!

Then they cooled down with the pudding pops I made. (Yes, I did make them!)

But Fred and Gloria just did a lot of this.

And this.

This week is supposed to be even hotter, so there won't even be any walks for the hounds.  We'll just be spending all our time indoors.
